Mark Hodge is a Lecturer in the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry within the Faculty of Humanities at Curtin University. He serves as Unit Coordinator for Science and Engineering Communication Skills and Academic Professional Communication (APC). His teaching focuses on foundational communication units essential for student success across disciplines, particularly in science and engineering fields. Key units include COMS1007 APC100: Develop Effective Communication Skills, which introduces students to critical learning, thinking, and communication processes required to research, develop ideas, construct arguments, and succeed in university studies. Another unit is COMS1010 Academic and Professional Communications, offered in the Faculty of Humanities School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry, building advanced skills for academic and professional environments.
In addition to his teaching role, Mark Hodge engages in collaborative educational initiatives. He is co-authoring an open textbook with Dr Kristoffer McKee from the Faculty of Science and Engineering as part of Curtin University's participation in a project to publish four open textbooks aimed at pursuing equity through accessible resources. This effort was highlighted in October 2022. Mark Hodge has also contributed to the Collaboration and Method Sharing for Engineering Educators Project alongside Esther Matemba at Curtin University, supporting method sharing in engineering education.
