Rate My Professor Maryann Oake

In her career at Indiana University South Bend, Oake serves as Director and Coordinator in Medical Imaging, contributing to accreditation efforts by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. She pioneered innovative teaching strategies, including the 'Poor Pete' case study series in Multiplanar Anatomy and Pathology courses (R472 and R473), where students use collaborative online discussions to diagnose cartoon characters' conditions with medical imaging, fostering critical reasoning, hypothesis generation, and peer interaction. Oake led the development of the energized radiologic lab in the $10 million Dwyer Healthcare Simulation Center, allowing students to practice live x-ray exposures on phantoms, improving positioning, image evaluation, and patient safety skills while minimizing radiation risks.
