Mrs. Melissa Philpot is a Lecturer in Medical Radiation (Medical Imaging) in the School of Allied Health and Human Performance, College of Health at Adelaide University. A South Australian-born and educated Medical Imaging Technologist, she graduated from the University of South Australia in 1993 and received the Kodak Award for finishing at the top of her graduating class. Philpot has over 25 years of clinical experience in both the public and private sectors, working in city and rural settings in South Australia, as well as a solo radiographer in country Queensland. Her experience encompasses trauma, bedside, and operating theatre imaging within major hospitals. She has also worked as a sonographer with a particular interest in obstetric and neonatal imaging. Philpot has relished opportunities to collaborate with other professionals, gaining and sharing knowledge through serving on professional committees, running workshops and in-house training sessions, mentoring students, and holding a role as a clinical supervisor.
Philpot's research specializations include trauma, bedside, and operating theatre imaging, sonography focusing on obstetric and neonatal imaging, professional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and keeping current with industry changes to help grow the profession. She co-authored the paper 'Enriching surgical theatre competence through computer-based simulation' with E. Arruzza, A. Chau, and Y. Gomes, published in Radiography 31(1), 415-418 (2025). At Adelaide University, she teaches courses such as RADY 2012 Medical Imaging Clinical Practice 1, RADY 3010 Medical Imaging Studies 2, and RADY 3011 Medical Imaging Studies 3. Through her teaching and ongoing professional engagement, Philpot focuses on expanding her own knowledge, sharing expertise, and contributing to the medical imaging field as part of a strong academic team.
