Michelle Harvey is a Lecturer in the School of Management within the College of Business and Law at Adelaide University. She coordinates BUSS 1060 Career Development for Professionals and BUSS 2036 Training and Development, and has taught these courses along with others in 2024 and 2025. Harvey collaborates with the Student Engagement Unit’s Careers Services Team to develop online career education resources. Her teaching highlights the multi-dimensional considerations involved in effective career planning, training, and development, informed by her broad professional background.
Her academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Accountancy and postgraduate studies in Neuroscience, Career Education & Development, and Education Studies (Digital Learning). Harvey commenced her post-secondary education in accountancy but discerned a different vocational path after reading Richard Bolles' What Color Is My Parachute? She took a year off to travel through South America and South Africa, worked as a travel agent, and subsequently completed her degree. Over the years, she has occupied roles across accounting, travel, government, human resources, small business ownership, outplacement, and education sectors. Prior to academia, she joined the University of South Australia as a Careers Adviser, aiding students with career guidance, employability skills, and job search strategies. Earlier, she functioned as a career and outplacement specialist, supporting individuals in career transitions. Harvey's research interests center on transformations in the labour market arising from globalisation, automation, and technology, in addition to neuroscience and psychology. She authored the publication 'Chatbots in Higher Education: a 2021 literature review of pedagogical, ethical, and affective themes' (2025, University of South Australia).
