About Minna

Minna Isomursu is a Professor in 6G Enabling Sustainable Society, Digital Health at the University of Oulu, within the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. She earned her Master's degree in the early 1990s and completed her PhD at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland before the turn of the millennium. Her career includes early work at the University of Oulu, followed by positions at Nokia and a small company. She began her first professorship in 2002, served as a research professor at VTT, returned briefly to the University of Oulu, held the position of Professor of Interaction and Co-design at IT University of Copenhagen for three years, and later became Professor of Information Systems Science at the University of Oulu before assuming her current role. Recognized for her extensive experience navigating the European research ecosystem, she is a leading professor at M3S, Europe's largest university software engineering research unit.

Isomursu's research focuses on digital health, service design, data-driven services, and human-machine interaction. With more than two decades connecting technology and health, her work emphasizes the digitalization of care pathways, big data infrastructures for health, patient-generated health data, and the impacts of digital health technologies on well-being. She coordinates major initiatives such as the Digital Europe SUSA project for sustainable healthcare with digital health data competence, the Interreg Aurora Nordic Health Data Spaces (NHDS) to assess readiness for European Health Data Spaces, and the Reboot Skills project for lifelong learning in advanced digital skills for manufacturing. She also coordinates cooperation with the World Health Organization and leads multimillion-euro projects. Key publications include 'Experimental evaluation of five methods for collecting emotions in field settings with mobile applications' (2007), 'Touch-based user interface for elderly users' (2007), 'Experience clip: method for user participation and evaluation of mobile concepts' (2004), 'The use of patient-generated health data from consumer devices in healthcare' (2023), and 'Impact of Digital Interventions on the Treatment Burden of Patients with Chronic Diseases' (2024). She serves as a professor member on the University Collegium and on the Faculty Board.
