About the role

James Cook University (JCU) is seeking a proactive and creative Innovation Officer to support the JCU Ideas Lab within the Graduate Research School.

In this varied and fast-paced role, you will deliver high-quality operational, marketing, and engagement support to enhance the visibility and impact of innovation initiatives, particularly those involving Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates.

You will play a key role in strengthening JCU’s innovation ecosystem by coordinating events, managing digital communications, and supporting partnerships across campuses, industry, and the broader community.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and implement digital marketing and communication strategies to promote JCU Ideas Lab programs.
  • Manage digital platforms, create engaging multimedia content, and monitor analytics to optimise reach and engagement.
  • Coordinate and deliver events, workshops, and industry engagement activities, including logistics and stakeholder communication.
  • Provide high-level administrative and operational support, including maintaining CRM systems, reporting, and financial processes.
  • Support partnership development and contribute to innovation initiatives, impact reporting, and case studies.

About you

You are an organised and motivated professional with strong communication skills and a passion for innovation and engagement. You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy balancing multiple priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes.

You will bring:

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, E-Commerce, or a related field, with experience aligned to HEWL 5.
  • Experience in digital marketing, event coordination, or administrative support.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and social media platforms (experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar is highly regarded).
  • Experience in higher education or innovation environments (desirable).
