Dr. N. Ramesh Babu serves as Professor of Physics and Administrative Officer in the Department of Science and Humanities at M.I.E.T. Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. He joined the college on February 14, 2001, as a Lecturer, advanced to Assistant Professor on December 8, 2003, and was promoted to Professor on December 1, 2011, a position he holds to date. Earlier in his career, from June 5, 1991, to February 13, 2001, he worked as a Lecturer at M.I.E.T. Polytechnic College. His academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in Physics from Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar, awarded in 2015; an M.Phil. in Physics from National College, Trichy, under Bharathidasan University in 1999; an M.Sc. in Physics from Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy, Bharathidasan University, in 1989; and a B.Sc. in Physics from Bishop Heber College, Trichy, Bharathidasan University, in 1986.
Dr. Babu's research centers on structural and vibrational spectroscopy, utilizing techniques such as FT-IR, FT-Raman, UV-Visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and density functional theory computations. His investigations cover the synthesis, spectral characterization, and morphological analysis of organic hydrazones, semicarbazides, and nanomaterials including silver-doped ZnO nanoflower thin films and Sn-doped ZnO nanorods for transparent electrode applications. He has co-authored 12 publications in reputable journals, including Journal of Molecular Structure, Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, and AIP Conference Proceedings. Key works encompass 'Structural and vibrational studies on (E)-2-(2-hydroxy benzyliden amino)-3-phenyl propionic acid using experimental and DFT method' (2012), 'Synthesis and Spectral Characterization of hydrazone derivative of furfural using experimental and DFT methods' (2014), 'Vibrational spectroscopy investigation and density functional theory calculations on (E)-N′-(4-methoxybenzylidene) benzohydrazide' (2015), and 'Morphology-controllable of Sn doped ZnO nanorods prepared by spray pyrolysis for transparent electrode application' (2018). These contributions have accumulated 146 citations on ResearchGate. Dr. Babu is a member of the Indian Society for Technical Education and has presented papers at national seminars and international workshops.
