Narelle Ryan is a Lecturer in Physiotherapy (Paediatrics) at the School of Allied Health and Human Performance within the College of Health at Adelaide University. Her primary responsibilities include delivering specialized education to physiotherapy students focusing on paediatric care. She teaches REHB 4057 Physiotherapy with Children and Families and REHB 6017 Physiotherapy Practice with Children and Families, scheduled for both 2024 and 2025. These courses cover essential topics in paediatric physiotherapy, including assessment techniques, therapeutic interventions, family involvement, and practical application in clinical contexts with children and families.
Narelle Ryan actively participates in research pertinent to her teaching area. She co-authored the 2024 publication titled 'Textured insoles may improve some gross motor balance measures but not endurance measures in children with motor coordination issues: A randomised controlled feasibility trial' in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Research, volume 17, issue 3, pages 1-13. The study, affiliated with the University of South Australia's Allied Health and Human Performance, evaluated the use of textured insoles in children experiencing motor coordination challenges. Ryan contributed to data curation, investigation, and writing-review and editing. The randomised controlled feasibility trial found improvements in select gross motor balance measures but no effects on endurance measures, providing insights into potential low-cost interventions for paediatric motor skill enhancement. This publication reflects her dedication to advancing evidence-based practices in paediatric physiotherapy.
