Earlier in her career, she worked as a Lecturer in Multimedia in the UK and gained hands-on experience as a producer, presenter, and journalist for radio and television in that country.
Neelu Sharma demonstrates significant influence in the media field through her 16-year tenure as a judge for the South Australian Media Awards. Since 2020, she has led meditation sessions to promote mental health among university staff, students, and the wider community. Additionally, she produces and presents a spiritual program on 5EBi, Adelaide’s multicultural radio station. Her dedication to public service includes collaborating with the Salvation Army since 2017 to deliver weekly produce to Adelaide’s homeless population, previous involvement with the Refugee Association of South Australia, and current role as a board member for Citizen Advocacy, supporting people with intellectual disabilities. A key scholarly contribution is her co-authored publication: Anderson, H., Masocha, S., & Sharma, N. (2019). “We are all confident to speak”: using radio as a tool of resettlement for young people of refugee background. Journal of Alternative and Community Media, 4(3), 99-111.
