Rate My Professor Patricia Seitz

Seitz's research and architectural practice address the complexity of the human experience in buildings and landscapes and their interdependence with larger urban systems, examined through the lenses of justice, equity, and environmental resiliency. Her work includes developing innovative design methodologies that centralize the user’s journey within marginalized communities, aiming to foster social cohesion, challenge social divides, and create opportunities for collaboration. As co-founder of the Global Design Initiative for Refugee Children, a Boston-based program under the Boston Society of Architects, she has spearheaded the design of portable playgrounds that provide safe play spaces for children in refugee camps and conflict zones worldwide, including locations in Lebanon and along the U.S.-Mexico border. These structures are designed at MassArt and constructed globally to offer moments of joy and healing. At the institution, Seitz chairs the Department of Architecture, overseeing the NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture program with Track I (102 credits) and Track II (60 credits), as well as the BFA in Architecture. She directs the Community Build program, in which M.Arch graduate students collaborate with community partners to design and construct functional structures. Under her leadership, the department emphasizes hands-on creation and commitment to addressing current climate challenges in the built environment, aligning with MassArt’s public mission.
