Paula Conroy is a Professor in the School of Special Education within the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado. She has held faculty positions at UNC since 2000, beginning as an Adjunct Instructor, advancing to Assistant Professor from 2002 to 2006, Associate Professor from 2007 to 2012, and Professor since 2013. Additionally, she served as an Adjunct Instructor at Adams State College from 2000 to 2001. Conroy earned her Ed.D. and M.A. in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado, and her B.S. in Special Education from Russell Sage College. She possesses extensive professional certifications, including a Colorado Professional Teacher License with endorsements for Visual Impairment (ages 0-21) and Profound Needs (K-12), a Special Services License for Orientation and Mobility (K-12), certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist from ACVREP, and a Certificate of Braille Competency from the Colorado Department of Education in both EBAE and UEB.
Her academic interests focus on action research, Braille instructional techniques, cultural and linguistic diversity, instructional methodology, physical education and visual impairment, and second language learners with visual disabilities. As the coordinator of UNC's Visual Impairment and Orientation & Mobility programs, she contributes significantly to teacher preparation in these areas.
