Peta Lush is the Student Inclusion Coordinator, Law Lecturer, and Researcher at the Law School of Adelaide University. Her role involves integrating formal and informal aspects of university life to create meaningful connections, amplify student voices, and foster a strong sense of belonging among students. She combines her commitments to research, teaching, and service in order to promote inclusive, kind, and affirming university experiences. Lush emphasizes the power of small actions and everyday conversations in building student equity and wellbeing. No two days are the same in her dynamic position, which she particularly enjoys.
Lush's journey into academia was non-linear. She did not initially qualify for entry into law school and holds the distinction of being the first person on her mother's side of the family to attend university. These experiences profoundly influence her approach to teaching, her socio-legal research, and her dedication to student equity and wellbeing. They stem from her own past feelings of uncertainty and lack of belonging in academic environments. During her PhD candidature, Lush developed key productivity habits, such as early morning reading and writing routines, which helped her transition from being a night owl to an early riser. Her research focuses on disability discrimination, dispute resolution, and education policy. She is passionate about creating truly inclusive university experiences for all students. In addition, Lush serves as an instructor for engineering courses at Adelaide University, including Engineering Capstone Experience B alongside Rachael Zeuner, and Civil and Environmental Design Project.
