Makes learning a joyful experience.
Dr. R. Arockia Xavier Annie serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Anna University's College of Engineering Guindy campus in Chennai, a role she has occupied since 2018. She obtained her Bachelor of Engineering (BE) from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in 1999, Master of Engineering (ME) from Anna University in 2005, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Anna University in 2014. Her professional journey at Anna University commenced in 2006 as an Assistant Professor, advancing through senior scales until her current position. Additionally, she held the position of Deputy Director at the Centre for E-Governance from 2011 to 2021. Currently, she supervises PhD candidates researching areas including enhanced comorbidity analyses via representation learning, Sybil node detection in vehicular ad hoc networks, mutually-distilled models for continuous sign language recognition, and heterogeneous graph embedding for drug repurposing.
Dr. Annie's research focuses on machine learning, security, multimedia, video processing, natural language processing, data structures and algorithms, and data analytics. She has published 25 journal articles, 3 book chapters, 12 conference papers, and 1 review, accumulating 112 citations and an h-index of 6. Select publications include "GBiL: A hybrid gated recurrent units (GRU) and bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) model with Particle Swarm Optimization for a Robust VANET IDS" (2025), "Keyframe Extraction Algorithm for Continuous Sign-Language Videos Using Angular Displacement and Sequence Check Metrics" (2024), "DRADTiP: Drug repurposing for aging disease through drug-target interaction prediction" (2024), "Genetically and semantically aware homogeneous network for prediction and scoring of comorbidities" (2024), "Live-coding vs Static Code Examples: Which is better with respect to Student Learning and Cognitive Load?" (2020), and "Enhanced intrusion detection techniques for mobile ad hoc networks" (2007). Her accolades encompass the IBM Great Mind Challenge Drona Awards in 2008 and 2010, Best Paper Award from Global Illuminators Malaysia in 2015, and Best Organizer Award at the International Conference on Software Defined Networking in 2019. She is a member of ACM and AAAI, and a life member of the International Association of Engineers (IAENG). As Principal Investigator for the ISEA Phase III project, she contributes to cybersecurity initiatives and organizes workshops and bootcamps.
