Reza Bradrania is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the School of Accounting and Finance, College of Business and Law, Adelaide University. He earned a PhD in Finance from the University of Sydney and an MSc in Finance and Investment from the University of Durham, United Kingdom. Before joining Adelaide University, he held academic and research positions at the University of Sydney and the University of South Australia. His industry experience includes roles as Associate Director, Director, and Senior Consultant in investment banking, private equity, and management consulting over several years. Earlier in his career, he co-founded and managed a start-up company, which was successfully acquired three years after its inception. Bradrania co-founded the Trading Lab at UniSA Business and has served on the Business School Research Committee and the Resource Committee of the Centre for Applied Finance and Economics. From 2020 to 2023, he was Program Director for the Economics, Finance, and Property programs, managing online and on-campus delivery of more than 15 programs involving over 900 students and 30 academic staff. He led initiatives in teaching innovation, graduate employability, COVID-19 response measures, program accreditation, and curriculum redesign incorporating industry tools like IRESS trading software.
His research focuses on financial economics, behavioural economics, asset pricing, capital markets, banking, finance and investment, and investment and risk management. Key specializations include empirical asset pricing, behavioural finance, market quality, financial markets, machine learning applications in equity investment strategies, and gambling behaviour implications in financial markets. Bradrania has published numerous papers in prominent journals. Notable publications include 'ESG-based index tracking with portfolio policy' with Pirayesh Neghab et al. (Journal of Cleaner Production, 2025), 'Investor behavior and the beta anomaly: who benefits from betting against beta?' with Veron and Wu (Economics Letters, 2025), 'Lottery demand, weather and the cross-section of stock returns' with Gao (Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance, 2024), 'Property crime and lottery-related anomalies' with Gao (Global Finance Journal, 2024), 'The beta anomaly and the quality effect in international stock markets' with Veron and Wu (Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance, 2023), 'Foreign institutions, local investors and momentum trading' with Wu (Journal of Empirical Finance, 2023), and 'Institutional ownership and liquidity commonality: evidence from Australia' with Elliott and Wu (Accounting and Finance, 2022). He has received multiple awards for innovation and excellence in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels from the University of South Australia and the University of Sydney. Bradrania is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students and is available for media comment.
