Ricardo Villegas serves as Senior Lecturer of Law at Adelaide University. He is featured in the official Adelaide University People Directory with the professional contact email ricardo.villegas@adelaide.edu.au. Following the merger of the University of South Australia (UniSA) and the University of Adelaide to form Adelaide University in 2026, Villegas transitioned from his role at UniSA. At UniSA, he held the position of Senior Lecturer and acted as Supervising Solicitor at the Legal Advice Clinic. In this capacity, he has supervised law students providing legal advice since 2020, supporting hands-on experiential learning integral to the law program. The Legal Advice Clinic operates as a key component of UniSA's law education, where students engage in real-world legal practice under supervision.
Villegas instructs courses within the UniSA Justice & Society academic unit, including Business Law (course code LAWS 1018) and Australian Consumer Law. These courses equip students with essential knowledge in commercial law principles, contract law, consumer protection, and related legal frameworks applicable in business contexts. He has contributed to public legal discourse through co-authorship of the article titled "'Dismissed': legal experts explain the judgment in the Ben Roberts-Smith defamation case," published on The Conversation on June 1, 2023, in collaboration with Rick Sarre, Emeritus Professor at the University of South Australia. The article provides expert analysis of the defamation proceedings and judicial decision in the high-profile case involving war crimes allegations. Villegas's work on The Conversation underscores his engagement with contemporary issues in defamation law and trials. Additionally, he maintains a legal practice as principal of Visual Legal and holds certification as a Practitioner with the Law Society of South Australia, integrating professional practice with academic responsibilities in the Greater Adelaide Area.
