Robyn Carmody is a Lecturer in the School of Education within the College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences at Adelaide University. An Arts educator and Arts curriculum specialist, she brings 20 years of experience teaching Visual Arts in primary and secondary schools in South Australia and Victoria. Her teaching career includes roles at Blackfriars Priory School from 2008 to 2018 and Prince Alfred College from 2019 to 2022. Prior to her current appointment, Carmody worked as a Teaching Academic at the University of South Australia from 2023 to 2025, an Associate Lecturer in Education at Flinders University in 2023, and as Curriculum Specialist for The Arts at the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) from 2020 to 2022. In this capacity, she participated in the 2021 review and refinement of the Australian Curriculum: The Arts and developed professional learning resources to support its implementation. She is active in the Arts professional association community, serving as a committee member and board member of Art Education Australia since 2023, and provides consulting services to the South Australian Department for Education.
Carmody earned her Master of Education in Evidence-Based Teaching from the University of Melbourne (2017-2020), Bachelor of Education (Secondary) from the University of South Australia (1999-2000), and Bachelor of Visual Arts from the University of South Australia (1993-1996). Her research interests include arts education, curriculum design and development, authentic assessment, pedagogy, creative pedagogies, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education. She coordinates and teaches courses such as Foundations in Arts Education, Arts Curriculum 2, Professional Experience units, and Curriculum and Pedagogy for pre-service teachers in Bachelor and Master programs. Key publications are 'Enhancing Undergraduate Pre-Service Teachers’ Self-Efficacy in Arts Education: Integrating Creative Body-Based Learning and an Ethics of Care' (co-authored with Edwards, Hatji, Shin, and MacGill, Australian Journal of Education, 2026) and 'Using student goal setting and feedback to encourage independent learning' (Art Education Australia, 2024). Passionate about quality arts education, Carmody advocates for its benefits to support teachers and students across Australia.
