Professor Roger Reeves serves as Professor and Head of the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury. In this capacity, he oversees the school's teaching, research, and administrative functions across physics, chemistry, and astronomy. Professor Reeves' research centers on the growth and characterisation of semiconductor thin films, with particular emphasis on oxide semiconductors and wide band-gap materials. This work underpins enabling technologies for next-generation solar cells, sensors for environmental and health applications, catalysts for carbon capture and water purification, and UV detectors to prevent primary skin cancer. As an Emeritus Investigator at the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, Reeves has delivered substantial contributions to oxide semiconductor research, leveraging his expertise to secure world-leading international collaborations and elevate the institute's overseas profile. He also holds a position as Director on the Board of the New Zealand Synchrotron Group, where his research on semiconductor thin films for new electronics applications is highlighted. Additionally, Reeves is associated with the University of Canterbury's Nanostructure Engineering Science and Technology group and has participated in Marsden Fund projects. He actively teaches and coordinates undergraduate and advanced courses, including PHYS102 (Introduction to Physics), PHYS111 (Introductory Physics for Biological and Biomedical Sciences), PHYS440 (Advanced Physics), PHYS443, and ASTR422 (Observational Astronomy).
