Phillips School of Business at High Point University from 2010 to 2024. He joined High Point University as an Assistant Professor of Accounting in early 2011, where he taught core courses in managerial accounting and cost accounting. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Roberts advised students majoring in accounting, contributing to their academic and professional development. He also served as the Graduate Program Director for the university's MBA program, guiding its practical, skills-based curriculum that encompassed managerial accounting, communications, legal environment, economics, finance, leadership, supply chain management, strategic management, information systems, marketing, and ethics. Under his leadership, MBA students were required to engage with real-world applications, including laptop usage for advanced coursework. Roberts actively participated in professional development, attending the American Accounting Association conference in Atlanta shortly after joining the faculty.
Prior to his tenure at High Point University, Roberts built a robust academic and professional foundation. He earned his Ph.D. in Accounting from Drexel University, serving as a Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant there from 2006 to 2010. His earlier degrees include an M.S. in Accounting Information Systems from the University of Delaware and a B.S. in Accounting from North Carolina A&T State University, where he graduated summa cum laude. Before entering academia full-time, Roberts held key industry positions, including Assistant Plant Controller at Printpack Inc. from 2005 to 2006 and Cost Accountant and Analyst at E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company from 2000 to 2005, providing him with practical expertise in cost analysis and financial management. As a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Roberts brought real-world insights to his teaching, challenging students to think critically, as noted by alumni who credited his rigorous classroom approach for preparing them for careers at firms like Ernst & Young. His contributions extended to departmental leadership, listed as Department Chair for Accounting and Finance in university documents, and he facilitated student involvement in enterprise competitions focused on cost analysis for non-profits.
