Dr Saras Sastrowardoyo serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Management, College of Business and Law at Adelaide University. Prior to her academic career, she amassed over twenty years of professional experience as an architect, where she was involved in the design and project management of large and complex building projects. This extensive practical background enables her to integrate real-world business environment knowledge with theoretical frameworks, developing practical solutions to organizational and societal challenges. Her academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Architecture, a Master of Business Administration, and a PhD in Business Management. Her PhD thesis investigated the small-world social network structure as a vital approach to managing dynamic knowledge, which is essential for organizational renewal during periods of change and uncertainty. She is actively involved in designing, managing, and delivering courses across postgraduate and undergraduate programs.
Dr Sastrowardoyo's research specializations encompass strategic knowledge management to support organizational sustainability, ideas creation, organizational knowledge management and innovation, strategic thinking and decision-making for sustainable organizations and society, and knowledge sharing along with information communication systems in project management, operations, and strategic management. Notable publications include the journal article 'Sense-making innovative systems: prestigious MOOCs' (2016) with Mike Metcalfe, published in Systems Research and Behavioral Science; 'Complex project conceptualisation and argument mapping' (2013) in the International Journal of Project Management; and 'Project conceptualization using pragmatic methods' (2009) co-authored with A.C.H. Reaiche and M.A. Metcalfe, also in the International Journal of Project Management. Additional contributions feature book chapters such as 'Aging in Asia: challenges and opportunities in China, India, Japan, and South Korea' (2017) in The Aging Workforce Handbook, and 'Complexity in multigenerational organisations: a socio-political perspective' (2015) in The Multi-generational and Aging Workforce. She has presented conference papers on topics including complexity in multi-generational organizations in BRIC nations and managing organizational knowledge for unknowable futures.
