Scott Raynor serves as professor and chair of the Art and Graphic Design Department within High Point University's School of Art and Design, a position he has held since joining the institution in 2005. Throughout his tenure, Raynor has demonstrated exceptional leadership in advancing the department's offerings and student opportunities. He established the university's first Mac Lab and introduced its inaugural digital art courses, laying foundational infrastructure for modern art education. Raynor spearheaded the creation of new degree programs in graphic design and digital imaging, alongside a full-semester study abroad initiative in Italy partnered with Studio Art Centers International. His paintings, characterized by intricate layers of color and symbolism, have been featured internationally in Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and China. Raynor integrates his studio practice with pedagogy, drawing inspiration from student interactions and incorporating their feedback to refine his work, embodying a 'guide on the side' teaching philosophy. This synergy has empowered numerous students to secure awards and recognition for their artistic achievements. In acknowledgment of his outstanding contributions to research and creative endeavors, Raynor received High Point University's Ruth Ridenhour Scholarly and Professional Achievement Award in 2020, underscoring his enduring impact on the academic art community.
