Seth C. Knox is Professor of Modern Languages and Cultures at Adrian College, where he joined the faculty in 2007 and served until August 2024. He earned a B.S. in Psychology and German from Adrian College, an M.A. in Germanic Languages and Literatures from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D. in Modern Languages from Wayne State University. As a key member of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, Knox has been listed in the Adrian College Graduate Academic Catalog as graduate program faculty. His academic career at Adrian College included roles such as Professor of German, contributing to the Languages department as noted in student evaluations and academic directories. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Knox has been involved in administrative tasks, such as serving as the contact point for adjunct instructor applications for American Sign Language in March 2024, using the official email sknox@adrian.edu.
Knox's research specializations center on German literature, particularly twentieth-century German travel literature. He has published significant works in this area, including the book Weimar Germany between Two Worlds: The American and Russian Travel Writers' View of a Divided Nation, published by Peter Lang in 2008. This monograph explores the perspectives of American and Russian travel writers on Weimar Germany as a divided nation. Additionally, Knox authored the article 'Arachne und ihre Schwestern: Eine Motivgeschichte der Araneomorphose in der neueren deutschen Literatur,' appearing in Marvels & Tales, Volume 21, Issue 1, in 2007. This scholarly piece traces the motif history of Arachne's transformation in modern German literature. Earlier in his career at Adrian College, he was recognized as Assistant Professor of German in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures. Knox has also contributed to undergraduate research mentoring, co-mentoring student projects with Dr. Stacey Todaro for presentations at the Ribbons of Excellence program, including topics on second language acquisition. His publications and teaching reflect a focused expertise in German cultural and literary studies, enhancing the academic offerings at Adrian College over his 17-year tenure.
