Dr. Shamayita Patra is an Associate Professor and Coordinator at the Shri Vaishnav Institute of Textile Technology within the Engineering faculty at Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. She earned her B.Tech in Jute and Fibre Technology from the University of Calcutta in 2006, achieving university topper status and receiving a Certificate of Merit for Best Textile Spinning Student for 2005-06, along with another Certificate of Merit for University Topper. She secured the 11th All India Rank in GATE 2006 in Textile Engineering and Fibre Science. Patra completed her M.Tech and PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2014, and held a Dr. D.S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship at Jadavpur University in 2016.
Her research specializations include medical textiles, polymeric nano drug delivery systems, nanofibers, natural fibers, biomaterials and fiber science, and tissue engineering. She has contributed key publications such as "Okra Plant: A Multi-purpose Underutilized Vegetable Crop" (2021), "Effect of Okra Plant Lifespan upon Optical Properties of Okra Fibers" (2022), and "Potential of Okra for Application in Textiles: A Review". With an h-index of 8 and 224 citations, her work advances sustainable and biomedical textile applications. Patra joined Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya as Assistant Professor in 2016 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. She has earned awards including the IEI Young Engineers Award 2018-19 in Textile Engineering, Indo Thai Academic Award 2019 as Young Scientist, SERB International Travel Grant 2016, and Young Scientist of the Year 2014. She served as Organizing Secretary for TEXCON 2016 and organizing committee member for 2017-2020.
