Soudabeh Shemehsavar is a Lecturer in Mathematics and Statistics at Murdoch University, serving in the School of Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry and Physics. She obtained her MSc in Statistics and PhD in Statistics and Stochastic Processes from Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic University) in 2007. Her doctoral dissertation, supervised by Saeid Rezakhah-Varnousfaderani, was titled "Expected Number of Crossings of Random Polynomials." Previously affiliated with the University of Tehran and having taught courses such as Introduction to Stochastic Processes at the Australian National University in 2019, she brings extensive experience in statistical education and research.
Her research spans statistics, probability, and stochastic processes, including survival analysis with mixture cure models, degradation modeling, machine learning ensemble methods, probabilistic distributions like the Dickman subordinator, and applications in genetics, soil science, and neurodegenerative diseases. Shemehsavar has authored or co-authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications, accumulating more than 280 citations. Key works include "Mixture cure model methodology in survival analysis: Some recent results for the one-sample case" (2024) with Ross A. Maller, "DCB-VIM: An ensemble learning based filter method for feature selection with imbalanced class distribution" (2025), "Asymptotics of the allele frequency spectrum and the number of alleles" (2024), "Finite sample and asymptotic distributions of a statistic for sufficient follow-up in cure models" (2023, Canadian Journal of Statistics), "Size biased sampling from the Dickman subordinator" (2020, Stochastic Processes and their Applications), and "The effects of climatic and soil properties on soil water repellency" (2025, Catena). She supervises Masters and PhD students on topics like maintenance optimization and protein aggregation prediction. Additionally, she teaches Time Series Analysis (MAS352) and has been appointed Lecturer in Statistics. In recognition of her contributions, she will serve as President of the Statistical Society of Australia Western Australia branch in 2026.
