Sue Corbin, Ph.D., served as Chair of the Division of Professional Education at Notre Dame College of Ohio, where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy pedagogy and theory. Holding a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction from Kent State University (1984-1989), she brought over 40 years of experience as a literacy professional to her role. Her career encompasses diverse positions, including pre-K through grade 6 literacy specialist, middle school reading and English teacher at Shaker Heights Middle School, adult education reading tutor, and teacher educator at Kent State University, Cleveland State University, Malone University, and Notre Dame College of Ohio. Previously, she chaired the reading department at Shaker Heights Middle School and served as Accreditation Coordinator at Notre Dame College.
A dedicated member of the International Literacy Association for more than 30 years, Sue Corbin held leadership roles such as board member-at-large, chair of the Children’s Literature and Reading Special Interest Group, editorial board member of its journal The Dragon Lode, and chair of the committee on Notable Books for a Global Society. She regularly facilitated and presented at state, national, and international conferences, including the National Council of Teachers of English. Her research interests focus on the role of literature in literacy and content area curricula, instructional strategies for struggling readers, and the impact of new teachers on pre-K–12 students' literacy learning. Sue Corbin contributed to the editorial board of the Ohio Journal of Teacher Education. Her publications include chapters such as Coming Full Circle: Using “Creative Chaos” to Teach Poetry (IGI Global, 2026) and articles in prominent journals like Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, The Reading Teacher, Language Arts, The Ohio Reading Teacher, The Dragon Lode, Ohio Voices, The ALAN Review, and Children's Literature and Education. Key works feature Journey on the Silk Road: Creating a Google Lit Trip (WOW Stories, 2012), Making Book Connections: The 2019 Notable Children's Books in the English Language (Journal of Children’s Literature, 2019), and annual reviews of notable children’s books in Language Arts (2017–2020).
