Dr. Sunil G. Savur is a lecturer and researcher in business ethics at Adelaide University. Originally from Kolkata, India, he migrated to Adelaide, Australia, in 1995. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Mysore (KREC, now NITK), a Master's degree in Manufacturing Management from the University of South Australia, and a PhD in ethical decision-making from the School of Management at the University of South Australia. His professional career spans industry roles including project and sales engineer in India with training at a US-collaborated machinery company, building and operating a sustainable farm, establishing a railway signaling manufacturing facility, working across several small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and serving as manufacturing manager in a Danish-French-Australian multinational corporation. Since 2009, he has been a Lecturer and Course Coordinator in the School of Management at UniSA Business, now part of Adelaide University, where he has taught courses such as Business Ethics, International Business: Strategy and Ethics, and topics on ESG since 2010.
Savur's research focuses on ethical decision-making processes, particularly in SMEs, responsible leadership, the influence of cultural and religious beliefs, spirituality in management, diverse worldviews, gender and LGBTIQ+ issues, decolonization in business ethics, and ethical challenges in technology, the gig economy, fast fashion, electric vehicles, AI, and space exploration. Key publications include his authorship of Business Ethics: The Sustainable and Responsible Way (Sage, 2024), which offers a practical approach with global case studies from companies like Patagonia, Aravind Eye Clinic, Merck, and LEGO across the UK, Australia, US, India, China, Nigeria, and Ghana. He edited Responsible Leadership and Ethical Decision-Making (Emerald, 2017, Research in Ethical Issues in Organizations, Vol. 17) with Sukhbir Sandhu. Notable papers encompass Role of Exemplars in Ethical Decision-Making in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) (2017), Theorising Ethical Decision Making Process for Research in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Australia (2013), Ethical Decision-Making after a Pandemic: How Business Ethics Can Help (2021), Ethical Decision-Making in Australian SMEs: A Field Study (2018), and Ethical Decision-Making—Synthesizing S. K. Chakraborty's Classification of Ethics with Levels of Moral Judgement and the Four-Component Model (2022). He convened the 2016 Australian Association for Professional and Applied Ethics conference and contributes to advancing practical ethical frameworks in business education and practice.
