About T. B.

Professor T. B. Sridharan serves as Pro Vice Chancellor and Professor of Biotechnology at Vellore Institute of Technology. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1991 from the University of Madras and earned a master's degree in Zoology with a specialization in Entomology from Annamalai University in 1994. He completed his PhD in 1998 focusing on the neurobiology of sensory organs in insects through collaborative work at the Defence Research and Development Establishment in Gwalior and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. His doctoral research included specialization in transmission electron microscopy and ultramicrotome techniques, leading to the first report of a rare type of sensilla with dual olfaction and mechanoreception functions in ticks.

Following his doctorate, Professor Sridharan held a postdoctoral position from 1999 to 2002 under the Rockefeller Foundation for Rice Biotechnology at the SPIC Science Foundation in Chennai, where he contributed to gene cloning, plant genetic transformation, and transgenic plant development in crops such as rice and tobacco. He joined VIT Vellore in 2002 as a lecturer in the Department of Biotechnology and completed an additional postdoctoral fellowship in 2003 at the Université de Technologie de Compiègne in France. At VIT, he has held roles including Division Leader of the Biotechnology Division, Program Manager for the B.Tech in Biotechnology, and UG Coordinator in the School of Biotechnology, Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. He has also served as professor in charge of the scanning electron microscopy facility under DST FIST, analyzing thousands of samples and supporting consultancy work. Professor Sridharan is a recognized fellow of multiple scientific societies, including the Royal Society of Biology, Royal Entomological Society, Linnean Society of London, and Royal Society of Chemistry. His research encompasses medical and veterinary entomology, neuroanatomy, electron microscopy, plant molecular biology, and human male infertility. He has supervised 13 PhD scholars and numerous other students, authored 78 research journal publications and one book, holds one patent with another filed, and has led or contributed to multiple government- and industry-funded projects. With over 30 years of research experience and 22 years of teaching, he continues to contribute to academic administration as Pro Vice Chancellor at VIT Bhopal University.
