Ms Tara McCracken is a Lecturer in Nursing and Rural Health at Adelaide University, within the School of Nursing and Midwifery in the College of Health. A Registered Nurse, she holds a Bachelor of Nursing (BN), Diploma of Applied Science (Nursing) (DipAppSc(Nurs)), Master of Nursing (MN), and Postgraduate Certificates in Critical Care (PG Cert CritCare), Retrieval Nursing (RetNsg), and Clinical Management (ClinMan). Her clinical background includes critical care, acute care, aged care nursing, and clinical facilitation of nursing students. With a passion for aged care, where she currently works, Tara is based at the Mount Gambier Campus. She teaches and coordinates courses in the Bachelor of Nursing within the Clinical and Health Sciences Academic Unit. Her teaching strengths cover clinical facilitation, acute care nursing, aged care, and First People's health.
Tara McCracken's research interests relate to mental health, and she is a member of the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Research Education Group. She has co-authored publications on suicide prevention education, including 'The impact of suicide prevention education programmes for nursing students: a systematic review' by Ferguson et al., published in the International Journal of Mental Health Nursing (2020, 29(5), 756-771), and 'The effectiveness of suicide prevention education programs for nurses: a systematic review' by Ferguson et al., published in Crisis (2018, 39(2), 96-109). Earlier, as a retrieval nurse and graduate featured in the University of Adelaide's award-winning Life Impact campaign, she exemplifies the practical impact of her nursing education. Tara McCracken contributes to nursing education and research, focusing on enhancing suicide prevention training for nurses and students.
