Dr Timothy Lathlean is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) with over ten years’ experience in research, private practice, and community care. He is affiliated with the School of Allied Health and Human Performance in the College of Health at Adelaide University. Lathlean holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Injury Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Sports Medicine from the Monash Injury Research Institute, Monash University (2012-2017), and a Master’s in Clinical Rehabilitation from Flinders University (2009-2012). He has managerial experience as Team Leader for Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology services in a community health care centre. His research specializes in musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, and cardiovascular health, with interests in precision health, including health literacy interventions and biomarkers to monitor and improve health outcomes. Lathlean’s PhD investigated the epidemiology of sports injuries in elite junior team sports, identifying links between training load, player wellness (stress, soreness, sleep), and injury risk. He supervises higher degree by research students on topics such as team collective behaviour, exercise-based interventions for musculoskeletal conditions, and the effects of environmental conditions on human physiology and performance. He possesses expertise in project management for observational studies and conducting various systematic reviews (intervention, diagnostic/prognostic, scoping). A finalist for the 2021 Early Career Researcher Sports Science Award at the Exercise and Sports Science Australia Conference, Lathlean has published in prominent journals. Notable works include “Effectiveness of combined surgical and exercise-based interventions following primary traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation: a systematic review and meta-analysis” (British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2023), “Health Literacy Interventions and Outcomes in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis” (JACC Advances, 2026), “Post-polio hospital admissions in Australia over a 10-year period” (Journal of Public Health, 2025), and “The clinical utility and reliability of surface electromyography in individuals with chronic low back pain: A systematic review” (Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2024). His contributions advance rehabilitation practices, sports medicine, and aged care.
