Dr. Trish Powers is a Lecturer in Academic Development within the Teaching Innovation Unit at Adelaide University. She holds a PhD in Education, her doctoral research examining the transition of higher education students into online learning spaces and assisting learning facilitators in designing and facilitating with greater understanding and teacher presence. Powers possesses extensive experience in online teaching and coaching across synchronous, asynchronous, and blended Hybrid/HyFlex modes for undergraduate and postgraduate higher education. Her expertise supports academics in leveraging technology and digital pedagogies to enhance learning facilitation.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Powers served as Senior Learning Advisor at the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Scholarship, Torrens University Australia, where she led collaborative initiatives and capability programs to help academics become effective learning facilitators. Previously, as Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Torrens University Australia, she designed curricula, mentored learning facilitators, supervised Higher Degree by Research students, and taught on the Master of Education (Innovation & Change). She developed and delivered the Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching, an award-winning university-wide online professional development course introducing innovative practices in delivery and evaluation. At Adelaide University, Powers teaches SCTIU 90004 Teaching and Learning Principles and Practice in Higher Education 1 SC (2024). Her research specializations include the transition of students into online learning, enhancing teacher presence and student experience in online and blended environments, and innovative curriculum design for professional development.
