Vanessa Enriquez Raido is a Senior Lecturer in Translation Technologies in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University. Originally from Spain, she earned her PhD in Education (Translator Training), investigating web search behaviors of translation students, from Universitat Ramon Llull in 2011. She also holds an MA in Translation and Intercultural Studies from Universitat Rovira i Virgili (2005), a Postgraduate Diploma in Translation and Digital Text Processing from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (2002), and a BA Honours in Translation and Interpreting Studies from Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio (2000).
Her professional career started in technical translation and software localisation at iDisc Technologies in Barcelona, along with collaborations at STAR Servicios Lingüísticos and other European organisations. In 2005, she joined the University of Auckland as a Tutor in Translation and Spanish, progressing to Lecturer (2010-2013), Senior Lecturer Over the Bar (2013-2016), and Senior Lecturer, where she held roles as Head of Department, PhD and Graduate Adviser, and NAATI Endorsement Coordinator. She served as Senior Lecturer at Universitat de Vic – Central University of Catalonia from October 2022 to December 2023 before taking her current position at Macquarie University in January 2024. Enriquez Raido's research interests center on translator education, translation technologies, and translation-centred information search. Key publications include her book Translation and Web Searching (2014), Situated Learning in Translator and Interpreter Training: Bridging Research and Good Practice (2016), and recent contributions such as Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Translation: A Contemporary Systematic Review (2025), Creating Terminological Correspondence Recognition Tests with GPT-4 (2025), and The Evolving Curriculum in Interpreter and Translator Education (2019, co-editor). She has received two prestigious Teaching Excellence Awards from the University of Auckland, the Faculty of Arts Research Award (2015), and the School of Cultures, Languages and Literatures Recognition Award for Outstanding Research (2018). Additionally, she has delivered translation-technology workshops internationally and consulted for New Zealand’s Language Assistance Services Programme to align certification with NAATI standards.
