Vincenza (Enza) Tudini serves as an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in the School of Humanities, College of Creative Arts, Design and Humanities at Adelaide University. An applied linguist with international recognition, she specializes in applying conversation analysis methodology to monolingual and multilingual digital interactions. Her research interests focus on online interaction for language learning, children’s online language and interaction, and the language of online grooming. Tudini’s expertise includes the application of conversation analysis to digital contexts, revealing unique features of language and interaction in online environments; online intercultural exchange and telecollaboration; and language teaching and learning in digital and blended programs. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy and contributes to advancing intercultural interaction studies in online chat rooms.
Tudini has authored influential publications that underscore her impact in the field. Her books include Children's Online Language and Interaction (Cambridge University Press, 2025) and Online Second Language Acquisition: Conversation Analysis of Online Chat (Continuum, 2010). Selected journal articles encompass Leonard et al. (2023) on designing maker initiatives for educational inclusion in International Journal of Technology and Design Education; Heugh et al. (2022) on multilingualism and translation technology in Aila Review; Dooly and Tudini (2022) on knowledge-in-interaction in Classroom Discourse; Tudini and Dooly (2021) on troubles talk in Linguistics and Education; Strambi and Tudini (2020) on questions and self-disclosures in Journal of Pragmatics; Tudini (2018) on interactivity in foreign language teaching in The Language Learning Journal; Tudini and Strambi (2017) on negotiating commonality in Australian Review of Applied Linguistics; Tudini (2016) on repair and codeswitching in System; Dooly and Tudini (2016) on small talk in telecollaboration in Journal of Pragmatics; and Tudini (2007) on negotiation in Italian chat rooms in Modern Language Journal. Book chapters include Tudini and Liddicoat (2024) on technology-mediated discourse in the Routledge Handbook of Second Language Acquisition and Discourse. As an educator, she teaches courses such as LANG 3012 Italian 3A, LANG 3013 Italian 3B, and LANG 3034 Advanced Languages Studies: Translation and Research, and is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students. Her collaborative work with scholars like Melinda Dooly, Angela Strambi, and Anthony J. Liddicoat highlights her influence on second language acquisition and discourse research.
