About Wen-Chi

Wen-Chi Liao is Associate Professor of Real Estate and Assistant Dean (Undergraduate Academic) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School. He also serves as Affiliated Visiting Associate Professor at the MIT Center for Real Estate. Liao holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota, a Master of Economics (First Class Honours) and a Master of Commerce (Finance & IT) from the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Soochow University in Taipei. His research focuses on urban economics, real estate economics and finance, applied spatial econometrics, economic development, and transportation economics. He has published in leading journals such as the Journal of Urban Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Real Estate Economics, Journal of Housing Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, and Journal of Development Economics. Recent publications include works on expressways and industrial development in China, air connectivity and urban attractiveness, and the impacts of the US-China trade war on housing markets and economic growth in Vietnam.

Liao has held numerous leadership positions at NUS, including Deputy Director of the Institute of Real Estate Studies, Ph.D. Program Director, Deputy Head (Research), Deputy Head (Academic), and Academic Director of the B.Sc. Real Estate program in the Department of Real Estate. He founded the NUS-URA Urban Planning 101 executive training program and directed the Asian Development Bank’s 2017 Effective Urban Infrastructure Programming initiative. Liao serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Strategic Property Management and the Journal of Property Research, and as Associate Editor of the Journal of Regional Science.
