Yasas Botenne is a Lecturer in the Curtin Medical School, part of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. As a registered Diagnostic Radiographer, he brings clinical expertise to his academic role. His qualifications include a B.Sc. (Hons), D.C.R.(R), B.EnvDes., and M.Arch.(H.Dist). Botenne is currently a PhD Candidate in the School of Design and Architecture at the University of Western Australia, exploring intersections between design principles and health sciences applications. His diverse academic background spans environmental design, architecture, and medical radiation practice, enabling an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and professional development.
In his teaching responsibilities, Botenne serves as Unit Coordinator for MIRA1001 Medical Imaging Practice 1 and MIRA1002 Introduction to Medical Radiation Science, where he delivers tutorials on patient care and communication. He also lectures in Medical Radiation Sectional Anatomy, Medical Radiation Specialisation 1, Medical Radiation Specialisation 2, and Clinical Medical Imaging Practice 6. Botenne contributed to a Curtin University Teaching and Learning Grant project titled 'Using standard setting to ensure defensible credentialing,' collaborating with Assoc Prof Khoa Do, Dr Francesco Mancini, and Dr Helen Flavell to innovate in credentialing practices for medical radiation practitioners. He has been acknowledged as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Medical Radiation Sciences, published by the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy. Additionally, Botenne participated in workshops such as 'Models for teaching medical procedures that are simulation based' at the Teaching and Learning Forum 2019. He supports gender equity through the Panel Pledge at Curtin University, listed under Science and Engineering, and is a donor to the John Curtin Gallery. Previously, at the University of Western Australia, he acted as Program Coordinator for design initiatives including the ALVA Design Studio and urban sketching events. Botenne holds licensure as a Medical Imaging Technologist from the Radiological Council of Western Australia.
