Dr. Chong Yit Sean (Esther) is an Associate Professor in the Management Department at the School of Business, Monash University Malaysia. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Services Marketing from the School of Business, Monash University Malaysia, a Bachelor of Business Administration with First Class Honours from Universiti Malaya, and a Master in Business Administration specialising in Information Systems from the University of Southern Queensland. Prior to her academic career, she worked with Accenture delivering business solutions for clients including Shell Malaysia, RHB Bank, Hong Kong Exchange, and Sakhalin Energy in Russia. She is a certified facilitator in the National Healthcare Group, Singapore, delivering programs such as ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ and workforce development to public sector healthcare professionals. A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she has served in leadership roles including Honours Director and Deputy Director of Graduate Research. She currently teaches courses such as MGW1010 Introduction to Management, MGW3401 Strategic Management, MGW2991 Leadership in Asia, and MGW3681 International Management.
Her research specializations encompass consumer psychology, including service transgressions, religious consumption, and customer forgiveness; career change and career choice behaviour; neurodiversity and leadership; service management; and learning and teaching in higher education. Key publications include "Governance and market dynamics of P2P energy trading: enhancing national strategies in Malaysia and Thailand" (2026, Utilities Policy), "Reconceptualising brand transgressions in the context of sacred consumption: an institutional perspective" (2025, Asia Pacific Journal of Marketing and Logistics), "Whole-class co-creation approach in portfolio assessment: a community knowledge triangle model" (2025, Palgrave Macmillan), and "Career change intentions of science and engineering undergraduates: a behavioral neuroscience inquiry" (2024, IEEE Access). Chong has received the Vice Chancellor Award (Monash Australia), Pro-Vice Chancellor Award (Monash Malaysia), Monash Dean’s Award (Faculty of Business and Economics), School of Business Outstanding Educator Award and Engagement and Impact Award, Highly Commended Award by Journal of Service Management, and multiple Best Paper Awards from ANZAM, Academy of Marketing, and International Research Symposium in Service Management. She serves as Council Member of the Malaysian Association for the Blind (2022–2028) and develops innovative experiential learning through collaborations like Dialogue in the Dark.
