Dr. Zulma Mojica Monroy serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher and Administrator Preparation within the College of Education at the University of Texas at Arlington. She holds a Ph.D. in Reading Education earned in 2023 from Texas Woman's University, along with an M.Ed. from the same institution and a Certificate of Biliteracy. Dr. Mojica Monroy possesses over two decades of professional experience in bilingual education, encompassing roles in classroom teaching, curriculum development, and teacher preparation programs. Prior to her appointment at UTA, she worked as a bilingual reading interventionist, graduate research associate, and adjunct instructor at Texas Woman's University, where her teaching experiences have shaped her expertise in literacy interventions and bilingual pedagogies.
Dr. Mojica Monroy's research specializations encompass bilingual and ESL education, with a focus on biliteracy practices, translanguaging in literacy instruction, language ideologies among bilingual teachers, and the lived experiences of Latina bilingual educators through testimonios. Her contributions to the field include several peer-reviewed journal articles and conference presentations. Key publications are "Testimonios of three Latina bilingual teachers: Exploring the embodied, articulated, and practiced language ideologies and the influence on biliteracy practices" in the International Multilingual Research Journal (2025), "Language Policymaking through Translingual Literacy Instruction" in Language Policy, "Explorando Posibilidades: Maestras Latinas Bilingües y su Postura Hacia una Pedagogía del Translenguaje" in the Journal of Latinos and Education, and "Análisis de Errores Ortográficos y del Léxico en la Escritura de Ensayos de Candidatos a Maestros Bilingües" in the NABE Journal: the Journal of the National Association for Bilingual Education.
