Job Summary:
Why Teach at Mississippi Governor’s School
Mississippi Governor’s School offers a rare opportunity to teach in a fully immersive, residential learning environment with students who are highly motivated, intellectually curious, and eager to engage. This is not a lecture-driven experience. MGS scholars arrive expecting to participate, explore, question, build, and create. Courses are intentionally designed as hands-on, experiential learning experiences that emphasize inquiry, collaboration, discussion, and real-world application. Faculty are encouraged to design learning that actively involves students through projects, simulations, labs, design challenges, performances, field-based exploration, or other creative approaches aligned to the course topic. A modest instructional budget is available to support materials, supplies, and experiential components.
MGS courses are in-depth, content-based studies that move beyond traditional high school and core university coursework. Strong courses reflect interdisciplinary connections, push students to think critically and creatively, and explore ideas not typically addressed in standard curricula. Teaching at MGS is an opportunity to try new approaches, teach boldly, and engage with students who genuinely want to learn.
Faculty consistently describe the experience as professionally energizing and deeply rewarding, offering the chance to do something different and create a meaningful learning experience for both scholars and instructors.
