26-04 Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Psychology

West Chester University (WCU), a regional flagship of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, is a public, comprehensive institution committed to offering high-quality undergraduate education, selected post-baccalaureate and graduate programs, and a variety of educational and cultural resources for its students, alumni, and citizens of southeastern Pennsylvania. The University offers more than 100 graduate and undergraduate programs in the sciences and mathematics, business and public management, arts and humanities, health sciences, education and social work, music, and interdisciplinary studies. We are a community of educators dedicated to developing graduates who succeed personally and professionally and contribute to the common good.

The Psychology Department, part of the College of the Sciences and Mathematics, seeks to advance the discipline of Psychology as an area of scholarly, professional, and scientific endeavor in a diverse and inclusive environment. Our primary focus is to provide a high quality, liberal-arts education wherein students and faculty members exchange ideas stemming from a variety of viewpoints in an environment of mutual respect, collaboration, and equity. We actively engage in the discovery and dissemination of knowledge in the behavioral sciences and encourage research and scholarship by both the faculty and student body. The Department is composed of 27 full-time faculty members and serves approximately 1700 students, including undergraduate majors and minors, master's degree students, and doctoral (PsyD) students. The faculty position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in the Psychology programs with emphasis in Diversity Science (open to all areas of psychology). Courses may be offered via in-person, online, distance education, and/or hybrid modalities. The ideal candidate will use innovative teaching methods and demonstrate attention to the learning needs of all students. The person's experience, expertise, and specialized training will serve to strengthen the department's mission on and off campus. The department values faculty collaboration and evidence-based pedagogy including high-impact teaching practices.

This is a full-time 9-month appointment. There is potential for summer and winter session instructional opportunities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate psychology courses consistent with area of expertise, including but not limited to Multicultural Psychology, History and Systems of Psychology, Psychology of Women & Gender, Multicultural Clinical Psychology. Teach via authorized modalities.
  • Develop and maintain a productive program of research and scholarly activities that includes research presentations and publications
  • Provide research mentoring for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Engage in academic advising of undergraduate students
  • Participate in service activities at the department, college, university, and/or community level
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Psychology or Human Development. ABD may be considered - must be completed before August 2026
  • Experience as primary instructor of undergraduate and/or graduate Psychology course(s)
  • Demonstrated commitment to responsive instructional design and delivery, and high-impact educational practices
  • Active program of empirical research in Diversity Science resulting in peer-reviewed publication(s)
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students in research
  • Experience integrating the principles of diversity, equity, and opportunity in pedagogy and research

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses aligned with Diversity Science; and/or
  • First authorship on recent (within the past 5 years) peer-reviewed publication(s)
