Job Description
The University of California 4-H Youth Development Program (UC 4-H) is one of 12 statewide programs administered by the UC Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) and delivered through the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) System. UC 4-H began as a way to introduce new agricultural technology through youth education and has evolved to include leadership, civic engagement, healthy living, and STEM.
Position Summary: The 4-H Community Education Supervisor 1 supervises 4-H Community Education Specialist (CES) 2 staff in Region 11 (Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange Counties). Responsibilities include building bridges between counties, managing conflict, providing leadership, supervision, training, budgeting, administration, building community partnerships, program evaluation, and ensuring policy compliance. This is a 100% fixed career appointment based in Irvine, CA, with eligibility for hybrid flexible work arrangements in California.
Pay Scale: $58,600.00/year to $79,700.00/year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Budgeting and Administration (20%): Develop funding strategies, maintain supplies and equipment, support agency agreements.
- General Leadership & Supervision (25%): Supervise staff to increase enrollment, conduct meetings, manage performance, observe lessons, approve travel and timesheets, coordinate programs.
- Training (20%): Train and mentor CES 2 staff, manage training plans.
- Program Evaluation and Reporting (15%): Develop goals, track and report progress, conduct needs assessments, ensure evaluation goals are met, prepare reports.
- Community Relations and Partnerships (10%): Participate in meetings, build relationships, coordinate outreach, respond to media.
- Program Integration (10%): Coordinate advisor opportunities, facilitate collaborations.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree or equivalent; ability to maintain professional relationships; knowledge of community education; effective communication, leadership, needs assessment, and conflict management skills.
Preferred Skills: Knowledge of 4-H programs; management of youth development; volunteer experience; work with diverse groups; supervision across locations; experience in STEM, healthy living, civic engagement, and leadership.
