We are seeking a passionate and experienced Academic Advisor to join the College of Medicine and Dentistry and support the success and wellbeing of our medical students in Cairns.

What you can accomplish in this role

As Academic Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting Foundation Years MBBS students, providing academic guidance, pastoral care and advocacy throughout their university journey. Working closely with the Associate Dean, Students, you will help students navigate academic challenges, personal circumstances and key transition points within the program.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing academic advice, mentoring and pastoral support to medical students.
  • Assisting students with course progression, professional development and transition into university and clinical training environments.
  • Supporting students experiencing academic, attendance or wellbeing concerns and connecting them with appropriate support services.
  • Working collaboratively with academic staff and committees to develop student support and remediation strategies.
  • Advocating for students requiring special consideration and assisting with leave and extenuating circumstance processes.
  • Building strong relationships with students, academics, health professionals and community stakeholders.

What you'll bring

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in a clinical or education-related discipline.
  • Significant experience in clinical practice and/or education, particularly within regional, rural or remote settings.
  • Demonstrated experience providing academic support, mentoring or pastoral care.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with students, medical practitioners and health professionals.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative capabilities, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • A record of scholarly activity, research and/or professional contributions relevant to the strategic priorities of medical education.
