Academic Advisor
SUMMARY
Address the special need of new students by providing college advising, scheduling of classes, aiding students through the enrollment processes and guiding applicants to any of the various support services (e.g., testing, career exploration, childcare services, financial aid, and counselors, etc.).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide advice to prospective and current students.
- Guide students in the awareness and planning of their post-secondary school curriculum including the selection of the courses and programs of study.
- Assist with registration, orientation, workshops, and seminars.
- Assist students, parents, and community agencies with accurate up-to-date information, which will assist in making sound educational decisions.
- Assist students in the acquisition, usage and evaluation of information including college guidelines, catalogs, and computer-based guidance systems.
- Assist in arranging on-site college visits for parents and students.
- Provide referrals to students needing services such as: tutoring, testing, career counseling, financial aid, disability services, etc.
- Provide online advisement services.
- Assist in retention activities of college including early-alert and as team members within the Success Center.
- Establish and maintain interdepartmental relationships with all student services and instructional programs.
- Provide support and assistance to counselors with their programs and community outreach activities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
Bachelors degree required.
EXPERIENCE
2 years work experience in post-secondary institution advising setting preferred.
Experience with Information Management Systems preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Well organized, task-oriented, and flexible.
- Possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Proficient in the use of personal computers.
- Able to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends.
