Academic Advisor I
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Individual Assistance: The Academic Advisor will assume advising responsibilities for any assigned student wherein the role is placed within the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences at UNC Charlotte. Depending on the assigned advisee caseload, the advisor must have the ability to work autonomously while also being able to work in a complex, team-oriented academic office building strong alliances with faculty and other campus partners that support the holistic development of students. The advisor must have a commitment to student success and the ability to listen and analyze academic needs. Exercise excellent verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and the maintenance of confidentiality. Advisors must also establish rapport with individuals, inspire confidence and build relationships.
Additional Assistance: The Academic Advisor will also be engaged in other activities that support the orientation, onboarding, and consistent communication with UNC Charlotte students. These activities might include coordinated messaging, cross-training, event participation, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience / Education:
- Master's degree completed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience presenting to groups of people utilizing relevant technology best practices.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
- Experience working in Higher Education with 1-2 years of direct experience advising, coaching, or counseling college students.
- Experience with Connect (EAB), Salesforce, DegreeWorks and/or Ellucian is preferred.
