Job Description Summary

The Academic Coach and Student Success Specialist supports undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at WFU through individual coaching, academic skills development, and related services. In addition, this role reviews disability documentation and contributes to other initiatives that promote student learning, achievement, and success.

This position is a full-time (37.5 hours a week) 10-month position. Position is eligible for flexible work location and alternative work schedule agreements per WFU HR guidelines though availability for on-campus presence is required as part of the position. Some limited work in the summer months may be required.

The deadline for priority consideration is October 31, 2025.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides individualized academic coaching for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students to strengthen skills in areas such as time management, learning strategies, test preparation, and other areas of academic success.
  • Designs and delivers outreach programming, including seminars, workshops, and training sessions, to equip students, faculty, and staff with tools that promote academic success.
  • Provides direct support for the Assistant Director of Student Success Initiatives to advance campus-wide awareness of academic coaching and student success resources through targeted outreach and skills training initiatives, while also supporting and promoting the CLASS peer tutoring program and other student engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborates with campus partners to connect students with appropriate resources and contribute to a culture of academic excellence and inclusion.

Other Functions:

  • Works with faculty and professional staff across campus to identify and respond to changing needs related to student learning and disability support services.
  • Serves as team member for intra-divisional projects including Campus Life, Office of the Provost, and other committees, task forces, and advisory boards as needed.
  • Evaluates and interprets documentation of disabilities and provides recommendations for accommodations.
  • Documents, maintain, and reviews case records, notes, and interactive process efforts while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Graduate degree in related discipline and two or more years of experience working in educational settings.
  • Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to professionally and appropriately manage sensitive and private information.
  • General knowledge of office management procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to teach in classroom, workshop, and training settings.
  • Ability to exercise discretion with sensitive issues, diplomacy, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to organize workflow and coordinate activities to maximize efficiency.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Two or more years of experience working in higher education settings.
  • Knowledge of student learning and operational assessment processes and procedures.
  • Counseling Skills.

Accountabilities:

Responsible for own work.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary work primarily involves sitting/standing; communicating with others to exchange information; repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; and assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
