The Blinn College District is searching for an experienced Academic Dean, Humanities at our Brenham Campus.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Job Summary
Serves as the District Academic Dean for the Division of Humanities for all Blinn campuses (Brenham, Bryan, Schulenburg Sealy and RELLIS) and provides leadership in developing and maintaining curriculum that responds to community needs, prepares students for success, and meets the external requirements of SACSCOC (Southern Association of Colleges and School Commission on Colleges) and THECB (Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board). Leads the instructional areas in the department through planning, development, implementation and evaluation.
Principal Accountabilities
- Support and ensure that the division follows all Blinn College policies and procedures - e.g. human resources, marketing/media, purchasing, enrollment management, travel, etc.
- Evaluate faculty, visit instructors' classes and hold follow-up conferences, monitor the division's faculty mentoring program and monitor instructors' individual plans of action for improvement.
- Build processes in the division and collaborate with other divisions, district-wide deans, and the Vice Chancellors to ensure semester course schedules are developed using "best practices in enrollment management" to meet student needs, class loads are efficiently distributed, and registration to final grade delivery is seamless. Coordinate with other Instructional Deans to maximize use of classrooms and office space.
- Serves on committees and councils as assigned (i.e. Dean's Council, Curriculum Committee, etc.)
- Lead hiring/interview committees for full-time and part-time faculty and staff - including providing oversight in the recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and retention of qualified faculty and staff, along with overseeing personnel matters within the Division.
- Review and approve faculty professional development activities.
- Select members for textbook adoption committees. Approve textbook adoptions.
- Provide leadership for assessment and core curriculum planning and data collection.
- Prepare institutional Program Review Reports for the division.
- Ensure compliance with all THECB mandates - for both ACGM and WECM programs/disciplines. Participate in preparation of SACSCOC reports and visits. Develop benchmarks through data-informed decisions that promote accountability and ensure THECB and THECB requirements are met.
- Maintain the human aspects of the Division including resolving both personnel and student issues. Facilitate and resolve conflicts between faculty and staff members, address student complaints regarding faculty.
- Initiate planning components that will: effectively implement programs within the system, advocate for the growth of the division, and allow the division to meet the needs of the surrounding community. Ensure that the Division offers programs that promote student success, curriculum integrity, address program weaknesses and builds on program strengths. Oversee the discontinuation of programs that do not meet student needs or are unsustainable.
- Develop budget recommendations and manage budget allocations for effective, efficient, and productive educational programs and support services.
- Expand relationships with external constituencies by working with K-12, university partners, attending community functions, and serving on external committees for the betterment of the community.
- Engage stakeholders to maintain a long-range plan that will take the Division 3-5 years into the future including roll-out, budget, staff development, and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of professional development and service to improve teaching and learning.
- Execute the College' Strategic Planning initiatives as applicable to the Humanities Division
- Accept other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications
Master's degree with academic credentials in at least one of the assigned supervising areas from a regionally accredited college or university.

- Ability to embrace change in evolving situations
- Working knowledge of distance learning program and objectives
- Ability to understand and apply cost efficiency methods to course offerings and division operations
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate degree in a division related discipline - English, Foreign Language, Education, Philosophy.
Three years or more teaching experience in disciplines related to this posting.
Experience assessing needs, planning, and implementing new programs in both academic and technical/workforce educ
Preferred Competencies
- Experience with the Brightspace D2L LMS system.
- Working knowledge of Banner software.
- Working knowledge of Ad Astra Enrollment Management software.
