Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (CRUK CI) invites applications for an Academic Development Coordinator to support the effective delivery and smooth running of the Institute's postgraduate programme. Funded by Cancer Research UK's charitable activities, the Institute supports around 95 postgraduate students enrolled on the PhD in Medical Science, as well as a small cohort of Master's students. The department runs a thriving nine week Summer Research Programme each year and welcomes 20-30 Visiting Students annually for short-term research placements.
Two Academic Development Coordinators report to the Academic Development Partner, and are expected to:
- Provide a responsive, high quality postgraduate administration service, escalating issues to the Academic Development Partner where appropriate.
- Take initiative in responding promptly to course related queries and student enquiries, referring matters to colleagues as needed.
- Develop and maintain office procedures, reviewing processes to support effective administration of student records and course information in line with University and Institute policy.
- Contribute to the effective support and wellbeing of students across the postgraduate programme.
Key duties are shared across the team, including:
- Managing the processing of applications for admission, issuing funding offers and setting students up on the University's Student Payments System.
- Requesting and uploading ATAS statements, confirming fee status, supporting students with Staff Bursary applications, and ensuring compliance with UK visa regulations.
- Managing processes relating to the Cambridge Trust and other funding competitions, including advising on eligibility, collating nominations and rankings, and ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Coordinating the New Student Induction programme, including the scheduling and booking of relevant introductory sessions.
- Working with students to compile and deliver the annual Postgraduate Training Programme.
- Liaising with stakeholders across the Institute, wider University and beyond to facilitate Thesis Advisory Committees and other academic support arrangements.
- Overseeing assessment processes, including First Year Assessment and final thesis submission.
- Coordinating the delivery of the annual Summer Research Programme, supporting the recruitment process and liaising with colleagues involved in the Institute's Uganda partnerships.
This is a diverse role, and the postholder may be asked to undertake additional duties as required. Occasional out of hours work may also be necessary to support major events, including the annual PhD recruitment symposium and interviews held in January each year.
