Academic Program Service Specialist - Young Writer's Workshop
Job Description
The Academic Program Service Specialist for the Young Writers Workshop supports the full life cycle of the program, from early‑summer planning through post‑workshop follow‑up. This role collaborates with visiting faculty, MFA staff, and program leadership to coordinate HR requirements, refine program structure, and manage monthly planning meetings. The Academic Program Service Specialist engages community partners such as school counselors and English teachers to promote applications and assists with updates to application systems and the program website. The role oversees supply inventory and purchasing in coordination with budget staff, reads and evaluates student submissions, manages acceptance and waitlist communications, and maintains a comprehensive roster of student information. Throughout June, the Academic Program Service Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for students, families, and staff, sending timely updates, responding to inquiries, preparing schedules and program materials, assembling student welcome packets, and securing classroom reservations. During the July workshop, the Academic Program Service Specialist is on-site daily, arriving early to prepare spaces, brief staff, coordinate meal deliveries, manage parent communications, lead daily staff check‑ins, support students during activities and writing labs, and facilitate and coordinate the anthology submission and review process. After the workshop concludes, the Academic Program Service Specialist continues to support families and students as needed and assists with anthology production and distribution. This position requires strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills, along with a commitment to creating a positive and productive workshop experience for all participants.
This is a temporary position that will start in May 2026 and last through September 30, 2026. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
Required Education:
Bachelors degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Experience:
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills required.
Desired:
Relevant experience coordinating an academic program, including event planning, communication with internal staff and external stakeholders, reviewing program applications, and maintaining program records.

The pay range for this job profile is $20.24-26.44. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
