Academic Program Services Specialist 1
The Ohio State University College of Dentistry Office of Student Affairs seeks a Student Services Specialist to support the Student Affairs team. Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Affairs, the primary role of the Student Services Specialist is serving as the entry point of contact for the office by serving as a receptionist in addition to other responsibilities. The College of Dentistry Office of Student Affairs works to enhance the student experience and promote students’ academic success and professional goals. Assuming primary responsibility for counseling students on personal and academic challenges, while working in partnership with other University and College resources, Student Affairs provides services that lead to students’ success in their goal of becoming a dental professional. The Office of Student Affairs also facilitates student involvement in the field of dentistry through suggestions of various extracurricular activities that enhance their academic and leadership experience.
The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.
The Student Services Specialist will be the initial contact for student walk-ins and will assess student needs and respond or refer as needed; provides academic support to the College of Dentistry students by working with external vendors and faculty to coordinate and implement the college Meet’n’Eat program as well as provide services that serve the needs of both DDS and Dental Hygiene students. Supports the College of Dentistry and the Office of Student Affairs by being a part of the team who plans and implements college-wide events. This position manages the administrative components of the Office of Student Affairs that includes tracking and communicating health compliance issues, managing all fiscal responsibilities including entering requisitions and managing all related processes and budget tracking, and managing room reservations; responsible for tracking and communicating student absences and overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of student spaces throughout the building. Serves as the receptionist/office manager for the Office of Student Affairs and will respond to phone inquiries/general inbox email and other secretarial duties as necessary. This position is responsible for managing the web content for the Office of Student Affairs and for coordinating with Marketing and Communication for any announcements and/or advertisements necessary for various events and activities.
Monday - Friday 7:00 am – 4:00pm; some evening and weekend hours are required.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
Travel and load and transport materials, displays and other equipment required. Operates a motor vehicle to conduct work activities.
Required: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Communications, Counseling, Public Relations, or a related field and a minimum of one year of related and progressively responsible experience in Higher Education student relations. Excellent communication skills (strong writing skills, public speaking, interpersonal and public relations skills), computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and a current/valid automobile license are a must.
Desired: Two years’ experience working in a Student Affairs setting. Desired competencies demonstrated by work performance are strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to effectively problem solve and work independently; time management, strong project planning capabilities, database management, social media platforms, Workday, and ability to demonstrate self-direction and motivation.
