Job Description
Position Summary
The Student Success Center in the College of Natural Resources (CNR) serves as the primary point of contact for student inquiries, academic advising, and student support services. The Center provides confidential advice to help students select and achieve their academic and career goals, and promotes excellence in classroom performance and out-of-class preparation.
The Academic Program Specialist develops comprehensive knowledge of CNR academic programs, policies, and procedures and provides advising and administrative support to students, faculty, and staff.
Essential Functions
The following duties are essential to the successful performance of this position:
- Provide individualized, confidential academic advising to undergraduate students
- Assist students with course planning, degree requirements, academic goal setting, and career exploration
- Monitor academic progress and support student retention and timely degree completion
- Review and process course substitutions, waivers, and academic exceptions
- Maintain accurate student records and advising documentation in student information systems
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
- Participate in student success initiatives, orientation programs, and outreach efforts
- Collaborate with faculty and administrative offices to support academic program operations

Preferred and Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in any relevant field in post-secondary education OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience providing guidance, coaching, customer service, or support to individuals in any setting.
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
- Experience using databases, CRM systems, or digital platforms to track information or support users
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in natural resources or natural resources career experience
- Experience developing programs to help with student retention
- Demonstrated presentation and public speaking abilities
- Professional experience advising students
- Experience with student information systems and course management systems
