Student Accessibility and Accommodation Services (SAAS) is a student-centered unit within the Division of Student Life whose work is guided by best-practice standards and interventions utilizing a multidimensional model of student well-being. SAAS oversees four key resources: Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD), Adaptive Sports and Fitness program (ASF), Testing Accommodation Centers (TAC), and Academic Support and Access Partnerships (ASAP), and is committed to promoting accessibility by providing support services, advocacy, and academic accommodations to students with disabilities. SAAS is strongly committed to outreach services to the academic community at large, promoting awareness of disability issues and providing support for equal access for all students. SAAS is a partner to students, faculty, and staff in the pursuit of developing leaders and citizens who will challenge the present and enrich the future.

Academic Support & Access Partnerships (ASAP) initiatives are designed to support the academic experience of students connected with SAAS. ASAP offers academic coaching, study sessions, workshops, and other educational and career-development activities focused on student development, including supporting executive functioning skills. ASAP also offers learning strategies with a focus on decreasing academic-related stress in a rigorous educational setting. ASAP seeks to initiate community building among disabled students, including neurodivergent students, and serves as an opportunity to elevate their well-being, accountability, engagement, motivation, and post-graduation planning.

An Academic Support Coach, in partnership with colleagues, supports the mission of ASAP through leading facets of the program such as providing direct supervision for student staff, supporting programming initiatives, providing development and training for the ASAP team, providing ongoing one on one academic coaching support services for students in identifying strengths, creating healthy habits for academic performance and greater self-efficacy, improving executive functioning skills, navigating campus career resources, and coordinating equal access through collaboration tools and ASAP resources. This role works collaboratively across campus with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders in the surrounding community to enhance access and inclusion for all students.

Coaching/Advising (70%): Provide individual, group academic, and select career coaching sessions to undergraduate and graduate students; Assist students in identifying, developing, and implementing learning strategies and academic skills to meet goals; Assess student learning and study strategies and create a personalized plan for each student that strengthens self-efficacy; Encourage students to set career goals that align with their academic goals, and include strategies for making career progress in students' personalized plans; Refer students to appropriate academic supports and resources; Collaborate with other SSD staff, campus, and community partners to provide access to resources and support students' academic performance.

Program Support and Development (15%): Collaborate with other ASAP professional staff in generating and managing program data, and utilizing data-driven information to enhance our approach to meeting student needs; Ensuring adherence to best practice strategies when supporting students through academic coaching and other ASAP services supporting students, faculty, and other staff; Provide research (information and resources) for disability related topics and protocols for weekly staff meetings.

Outreach/Service/Advocacy (15%): Exercise professional judgment and specialized knowledge to support the advocacy for students with disabilities, including referring and responding to inquiries and requests covering a wide variety of questions; Develop, coordinate, and facilitate programming and services that support advocacy, while sustaining and building working relationships with campus partners; Support the ASAP Program Leads in establishing and updating University policies and procedures regarding qualification for accommodation services; Under the supervision of the ASAP Program Leads, create and deliver learning opportunities to promote awareness and inclusion of disability culture in post-secondary preparation; Communicate information on best practices in post-secondary learning strategies and specific disabilities through publications, presentations, and workshops; Provide potential students with appropriate information and resources related to post-secondary access, learning strategies, and campus navigation; Share information related to the transition from K-12 to postsecondary education, disability law, and FERPA; Find and make referrals to appropriate resources both on campus and in the community; Promote self-advocacy and effective interpersonal communications among constituents; Work with students on the transferability of their skills that may be valued in new settings upon graduation; Support the ASAP Program Leads' efforts to develop a resource network (including career resources) and educational opportunities for faculty and other campus partners.
