Job Description

Academic Surgical Pathologist - Gastrointestinal and Pancreaticobiliary Pathology

The Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences at the University of Missouri School of Medicine/University of Missouri Healthcare is seeking an academically oriented, AP board-certified, surgical pathologist with subspecialty training in GI Pathology, including medical liver and pancreaticobiliary pathology. Desired qualifications include GI fellowship training, however candidates who have done a general surgical pathology fellowship with GI focus, or practicing pathologist with substantial experience in GI pathology will be considered. This is a full-time appointment at Assistant Professor rank on the non-tenure clinical track.

We seek an AP board-certified pathologist to assist in GI sign out, as well as participate in some general surgical pathology sign out. The surgical pathology practice accessions approximately 23,000 surgical pathology cases annually with a large case variety; subspecialty sign out is in place for neuropathology, hematopathology, gynecological pathology, cytopathology,and GI/Liver pathology. There are opportunities for clinical and translational research, both within the Department and within the larger UHMC system, including Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, and the Columbia campus.

Job Details

  • In addition to participating in diagnostic sign out of subspecialty areas, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the general surgical pathology frozen section services as well as tumor boards.
  • Call is very manageable, divided among all anatomical pathologist, Monday evening to the following Monday evening.
  • Candidates are expected to contribute to medical student and resident education, and develop research projects reflective of their interest.

Columbia, Missouri is a vibrant university town nestled exactly between St. Louis and Kansas City. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have an MD, or MD/PhD, or DO degree and be Board certified or eligible in Anatomic Pathology. Eligibility for unrestricted licensure for the practice of medicine in Missouri.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates will be evaluated on: possess strong surgical pathology diagnostic skills with subspecialty training or experience in GI/Liver pathology. In addition to participating in diagnostic sign out of subspecialty areas, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the general surgical pathology frozen section services; contribute to medical student and resident education, and develop research projects reflective of his/her interests.
