Job Summary
The Accessibility Tester will work closely with the Universal Access (UA) Team to perform and coordinate testing projects on SLCC's digital resources to ensure screen reader accessibility in accordance with WCAG 2.1 AA and ensuring accessible user experiences for SLCC's public-facing digital web content and mobile apps (according to the Americans with Disabilities Act). With guidance from the UA Coordinator, the Accessibility Testing Coordinator will identify & test digital resources using a workflow to track requests and provide feedback on inaccessible design and elements in the digital space, specifically user experience for screen reader users.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain workflow for testing requests in Excel or equivalent.
- Prioritize requests with support from the UA Team.
- Collaborate with campus partners to identify opportunities for high impact testing.
- Test web content; including course content, website pages, purchased third-party software/hardware, visual & auditory media, and conventional electronic documents.
- Perform audits in collaboration with the UA Coordinator for any digital resources on campus.
- Generate screen reader guidance for users with support from the UA Team, as needed.
- Present/participate in meetings, share findings, & identify possible solutions.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
- Familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 & 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and how they apply to higher education
- Adaptability to unfamiliar systems and content
- Highly self-motivated
- Interest in disability justice, advocacy, and/or education
- Proactive collaborator for guidance and support
Minimum qualifications
- 10+ years lived experience as a fluent screen reader user
- Comfortable with using NVDA, JAWS, and/or VoiceOver for testing
- 1-2 years of experience working with technology in a professional environment
- Familiarity with WCAG 2.1
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree, an equivalent certification, or 2 years work experience in higher education
- Experience applying WCAG principles to testing
- Accessibility or Testing certification (CPACC, WAS, Trusted Tester, etc.)
- Experience with testing content in higher education (accessibility or UX)
- Proficiency with Canvas LMS, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe products.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and Javascript
- Familiarity with Universal Design
- Familiarity with User Experience (UX) testing
- Experience with conventional electronic document remediation
